Minnesota 11-Year-Olds Create Nationwide Hurricane Relief Fund For Kids By Kids

St. Paul, Minnesota, 10/6/05: Two sixth graders from Minnesota are launching a national hurricane relief fund to aid schoolchildren directly affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The girls, Audrey and Rachel, have enlisted the support of The Salvation Army in order to achieve their goal of collecting just $1 from every K-12 student in America. Their goal of $55 million in funds raised will go to the affected areas and will help families with school-aged children.

"So many children have had the excitement of a new school year crushed by the horror of being torn from their homes and their schools," said Major Paul Fleeman, Salvation Army Twin Cities Commander. "Seeing other children rallying to their support is even more important than the funds raised. Knowing that people from all over the country care is priceless."

Information about this fund is available on their website at www.kidstotherescue.org.
