starting a new tradition...

Kids To The Rescue™ (KTTR) was created to enable school kids across America to help fellow classmates, devastated by the 2005 Hurricanes, Katrina, Rita and Wilma. It began like so many ideas, a conversation between new friends wondering what it must be like to be someone else, especially a child who survived a major disaster, only to find out you are without a school or home to go to everyday. We thought, “What could we do to make a difference?”

Our class sold bagels and our school had a collection. Like so many kids in so many schools we were trying to help. We found others wanting to help but learned some kids individually did not believe their pennies; nickels, dimes and quarters were enough to make a difference. With the help of The Salvation Army, Kids To The Rescue established the Kids To The Rescue Fund. A place, “for kids by kids” where no matter how much you can give by kids coming together, it does matter!

While we never know when kids will have to face another crisis, tragedy or disaster, we do know that many kids understand the need to help and really want to give to other kids. KTTR wants all kids to learn the value of giving, not just in times of disaster like Katrina but as part of our everyday life. Either through time or personal commitment, by raising your own donations (as little as $1.00 every year) to show we can make a difference in the lives of kids who need the most help!

Many kids, schools, businesses, organizations and influential people donated time, money and resources to help make our campaigns a success. With the help of kids from around the country, we managed to raise, penny-by-penny, dollar-by-dollar, and school-by-school nearly $50,000 dollars. When you look at our goal, $1.00 from every K–12 student in the USA, or more than 55 million kids, we have a lot of work still ahead!

Through The Salvation Army, and with everyone's help, KTTR has provided food, shelter and medical care to kids and their families that needed help. A school in Biloxi, Mississippi received school supplies from a school in northwestern Minnesota through Kids To The Rescue. We know anything is possible and the future is in our hands!

With the support of The Salvation Army, our web site offers a new hope for every kid without and suffering. The Salvation Army is an international organization yet serves in a grassroots capacity to meet human need. Unless otherwise requested, all donations go back to the geographical location of the donor.
